Alexandria Township, N.J. – Trooper Benjamin Hockin was credited with saving the life of an 8-month-old girl in Alexandria Township after she was found unresponsive and not breathing on Saturday, October 3. At approximately 6:48 a.m., Kingwood Station troopers were dispatched to a 911 call for an unconscious and unresponsive infant. Trooper Benjamin Hockin was the first trooper to respond to the home. When he arrived, he immediately retrieved an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from his troop car, which patrol troopers carry routinely. Prior to his arrival, a local family doctor responded to the home and was performing CPR. Once Trooper Hockin was inside, he assessed the girl and discovered that she was not breathing and had no detectable pulse. Relying on his training, he quickly deployed the AED. He administered one shock based on information obtained from the AED and then began CPR. He continued CPR until Milford-Holland EMS arrived on scene. First responders administered a second shock before taking over CPR duties. Lila was transported by Milford-Holland EMS to Hunterdon County Medical Center. From there, she was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The doctors and paramedics involved commended Trooper Hockin for his outstanding life-saving efforts, which helped keep the girl alive until she received advanced treatment. Trooper Hockin graduated the 155th New Jersey State Police Recruit Class this past February, the same month as the girl he saved was born. “Trooper Hockin’s quick and decisive actions are a credit to him and the New Jersey State Police,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “There is nothing more rewarding or meaningful than to save a life. This is a memorable start to a bright and promising career."

The history of law enforcement in the United States is a long and wonderful history of bravery. This website is dedicated to documenting the heroic deeds of law enforcement officers throughout the United States who have either given or risked their lives to save others. There are many stories of bravery and heroism for many who are considered first responders. However, it is those in law enforcement who are most likely to be the first to arrive upon a location requiring life saving acts engaging dangerous hostage takers, running into burning buildings/vehicles, providing first aid to seriously injured victims, saving near drowning victims and much more are what the women and men of law enforcement do routinely and at many times, great peril to their own safety.
It is our mission to document the history of lives saved by those dedicated women and men in law enforcement. To share with others the dramatic deeds of those individuals who are the first, first responders. It is so important for our citizens to understand that law "enforcement" is not always about enforcing the law but rather being there when our citizens need us.
It is to this end we are dedicated to promoting documentation regarding the history of law enforcement and the lives they have saved.
