Deputy William Puzinski had been patrolling the streets of Orlando about 4 AM when he was informed of a 2 alarm fire at a nearby complex. He arrived at the scene and observed the burning building. Deputy William Puzynski watched the inferno trap people on all three floors of an Orlando apartment building, forcing some to hang off their balconies. “It was chaos everywhere,” he told reporters after the Saturday morning fire. Then, something cut through the chaos — a baby’s screams. Amid the flames, Puzynski spotted a mother holding her 1-year-old daughter on a third-story balcony. Smoke billowed out of the apartment behind them. “At that moment, I knew I had to save the baby,” he told the station. Deputy Puzynski then climbed to the 3rd story balcony. Video of the rescue captured Puzynski telling the woman “hand me the baby, hand me the baby. We are coming,” as he goes up and balances himself on the railing before she extends the crying baby to him. “Please, come get me,” she pleads afterward. Deputy Puzynski then brought the baby down before the mother, Barbara, and grandmother were subsequently rescued by firefighters. Firefighters would need an hour to tame the blaze, which damaged a dozen apartments, displaced more than 30 people and injured three. No one was seriously hurt, but a family told News 13 that their pets died in the fire. On April 27th the Orange County Sheriff's Office surprised the family with new toys and gifts, since they lost so much in the fire. “It was a joyful meeting, with tears & hugs & laughs - and lots of toys and supplies for mom & kids!” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

The history of law enforcement in the United States is a long and wonderful history of bravery. This website is dedicated to documenting the heroic deeds of law enforcement officers throughout the United States who have either given or risked their lives to save others. There are many stories of bravery and heroism for many who are considered first responders. However, it is those in law enforcement who are most likely to be the first to arrive upon a location requiring life saving acts engaging dangerous hostage takers, running into burning buildings/vehicles, providing first aid to seriously injured victims, saving near drowning victims and much more are what the women and men of law enforcement do routinely and at many times, great peril to their own safety.
It is our mission to document the history of lives saved by those dedicated women and men in law enforcement. To share with others the dramatic deeds of those individuals who are the first, first responders. It is so important for our citizens to understand that law "enforcement" is not always about enforcing the law but rather being there when our citizens need us.
It is to this end we are dedicated to promoting documentation regarding the history of law enforcement and the lives they have saved.
